About Orval
Orval is a Trappist beer from the Notre-Dame d'Orval abbey in the Gaume region of Belgium. The current brewery dates from 1931 and makes only one beer for sale, in a distinctive skittle-shaped bottle.
The label shows a trout with a ring in its mouth. According to legend, Countess Mathilda lost her wedding ring in a spring and a trout brought it back. The beer is dry and slightly tart thanks to the wild yeast brettanomyces.
